The Order of Arts and Literatureis the departmental award of France, administered by the Ministry of Culture of France. Another translation of the name of this award, which is often used - the Order of Arts and Letters.
The Order of Arts and Letters consists of three degrees: commander (the highest order degree), officer and chevalier.
The awarding of the Order is carried out successively, from the lower degreeto the higher.
The persons aged 30 and above, enjoyingthe civil rights and having made significant achievements in the field of arts and literature can be awarded with the Order of the chevalier degree. Being awarded with the officer degree is only possible 5 years after being awardedwith the chevalier degree, and the commander degree is only 5 years after the being awardedthe officer degree of the Order. When awarding a higher degree of the Order, the previous and already marked merits are not considered.
