It is the first so large scale solo exhibition of one of the most significant Russian artists of the beginning of the 20th century. The eminent master of painting and drawing, F.Malyavin (1869-1940) had emigrated from Russia after the October Revolution and for a long time was known only for the narrow circle of specialists of specialists and connoisseurs of art. The artist got true recognition in Russia only in the second half of the 20th century. The aim of that exhibition is to reveal the main stages of F.Malyavin’s creative oeuvre including the foreign period. The exposition will bring together about 110 art works - paintings and graphic works (mostly drawings and works that are executed in mixed technique) from the collection of the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery and the other museums of Russia, the Republic of Belarus, Italy, and also from the private collections of Russia, the United States of America and Switzerland. For the first time since 1899 in Russia and St. Petersburg the Laugh painting from the Venice Museum of Modern Art collections is presented.
