This exhibition project is dedicated to the nude genre of domestic creative arts. The female nude served as the basis of art education. The study of her expressive possibilities enriched the artistic mind and prompted the search for new imaginative solutions.

The museum’s collection allows us to represent the subject in a wide range of time frames and genres: from the works of the Russian School of Academy of the XVIII Century to the pictorial and plastic variations of the XX Century, from mythological and biblical stories to genre scenes. In the works of classical artists (Ivan Akimov, Yakov Kapkov) the perfection of the human physical form embodies the idea of heroism, heightened emotions and fortitude. Creating images of mythological characters, painters of the Romantic era (Karl Briullov, Fyodor Bruni) reflected human kind’s love of beauty.

The dialogue between the artist and the model will appear in a special section of the exhibition - the “Artist’s Studio” - where the works of Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov, Vasily Surikov, Zinaida Serebryakova, Konstantin Istomin and others will be displayed. It will also allow visitors to see the large scale canvas of Vasily Yakovlev’s “Workshop” (early 1930s) for the first time since its recent restoration
