Born in Eisk 15 May 1883 in the family trade official.
Engaged at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1901-1903) in A. Vasnetsov, and A. Stepanov.
Engaged at the Stroganov School of Industrial Art.
In 1905-1906 he lived in Paris, where he attended a workshop HH Kruglikova.
Member of the association "World of Art".
He worked in the department of drawings and engravings of the Russian Museum.
Art historian, Professor Graduate Institute of photography and photographic equipment, a professor of graphic arts department of the Academy of Fine Arts.
