Born in the family of a priest in 1900 in a village near Vyatka.
In 1921-1926 he studied Higher Art and Technical Institute, then in Institute of Artistic Culture (teacher K. Malevich).
In 1928 he collaborated with the publishing house "Detgiz", while teaching art in Leningrad school number 33.
He died May 3, 1973, Leningrad.
